Prospective projects / Dorcan Academy helps Onjiko School

The river Nando is over 5 kilometres away from Onjiko Primary School, but this doesn't stop children being sent out from the school to go get water. The 330 primary school pupils are asked to bring water from home but are routinely unable to do so, and the river water is untreated and unsafe.

The 140 kindergarten children don't have to fetch water but they can be equally thirsty, and are even more likely to become ill from water borne diseases.

Dorcan Academy in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, is working to raise the funds for a borehole for Onjiko Primary School. This will massively reduce illness in the school and boost school attendance. And we're expecting academic performance to improve when pupils aren't ill.
