A diverse range of events will be held in Chippenham this weekend - including gigs, choral assembles, open mic sessions, a poetry slam and relaxing jazz – which are all open to the public.

The WellBoring Weekend has become an annual Chippenham mini-festival with a series of events to entertain, inspire and fundraise - helping to bring clean water to rural schools in Africa. The charity explains that donating some small change can make a huge difference with just £3.50 enough to provide clean water for one child.

All the daytime events on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of May are free to attend. The Sing Out event has a suggested £5. The charity WellBoring was founded in Chippenham, is run by volunteer committee members and several well-known local venues have given space for free.

Again this year Rivo Lounge, The Cause, St Andrew’s Church and the Old Road Tavern have offered up space for performances and will welcome members of the public to attend the charity events. In 2017 the WellBoring weekend was a success with over 300 people attending.

This year the line-up is as diverse as the venues with various tastes in music catered for. The Concert is back by popular demand and a new Life Workshop will be added to the weekend of entertainment.  The weekend starts in Rivo Lounge at 11.30am on Saturday. The schedule is as varied as relaxing jazz, a loud rock gig, and a workshop on leadership skills and making a difference.

The events are spread out consecutively so people could have an action packed weekend and attend almost all the events. There is a choice on Saturday evening of choral singing in St Andrew’s Church or a gig at the Old Road Tavern, which has drawn crowds in previous years and will include British rockgrass band, Folk Lift Truck, back by popular demand, plus Jonah Jones and Jake Collins.

As well as seats in the audience there is also the opportunity to step into the limelight at one of the open mic events. When Rivo Lounge opens on Sunday singers and musicians can turn up to perform. If you pen a poem, limerick or rhyme by Sunday at 2pm you can drop into the poetry open mic event at The Cause, or just come and enjoy poetry. And then there's jazz at the Cause until 5pm, a perfect way to round out a weekend.
